The search begins…

Surprise! Quadruplets!

Kidding! Hahaha… seriously. Kidding. There is only one in there! And Oliver re-confirmed that with the doc a few times! So why does Oliver have FOUR baby car seats/carriers? Because nothing is easy when signing up for a registry …

We had fully decided on a carrier and were ready to register for it. We’d gone to the store, lifted it, carried it around, taken it in and out of the base a few times. But then we found out it was NOT compatible with our stroller. And the stroller is a solid “yes”… more so than anything else on our registry (more on that in a later post). So we were back to the drawing board again, but this time armed with a list of what IS compatible with the stroller. My friend (and former SLPA) has a saying anytime something isn’t working the way we feel it should – “You have to be smarter than the thing you are trying to operate”. Well by golly those are smart suckers those baby carriers. It took a lot of work to figure out how to get them in and out. Some latched in the front, some in the back, some you pull, some you push. And we only wanted to try out four! But in the end we narrowed it down to 2, and we’re now working to figure out which is the safest out of those two …

It’s fun to get to the “real” baby stuff now. For weeks our registry has consisted of books, owl sheets, more books, a stroller and did I mention books? There were only ~ 50 … until today. I just added more *grin* Hey! When you have a “wisdom” theme going, you gotta stock up on the literacy! And, of course, when you have a Speech-Language Pathologist for a mommy…

FEEDBACK: What’s the BEST baby item out there that you (or a mommy you know) just couldn’t live without? Leave a comment and let us know!

We’re currently on our 3rd stroller and Joanna is only 8 months old. The systems are nice to have when they are smaller, but if you grow a watermelon like I did, carrying a 20lb child in a carseat is horrible for your back. I wear her most of the time when I can.

We use a fold up stroller the most at this point. But we were thankful for our travel system. I forgot the brand we purchased, but it was around $150.

I think you should invest in a nice baby carrier, like a Boba, Onya, or Ergo. It’s so much easier to just wear your baby instead of pushing them around in a stroller. It’s also a great workout. We have a Boba and an Onya – Jonathan wears the Onya.

My sister in law says she’ll pass along her boba, and we registered for the ergo and the moby… I am hoping to wear the baby the most as I have a bad back as is plus will love having my hands free 🙂 you cloth diaper as well, right Laura?? I remember reading your blog posts about it…

Gerber pre-folded cloth diapers make the best burp rags ever.
A snap-and-go stroller is amazing, light, compact and affordable. Don’t be seduced by the “travel system”.
Finally, a simple bouncy seat is a God send.
    SPOOLING EXCITED FOR YOU!!!!

Ooo I’ll put some of those prefolds on the registry! We are doing a high end jogger stroller that has the adapter if we want to put the carseat on it. And the swing we registered for it both a swing and a bouncy seat…. yay!!

You MUST get a baby ergo and a sleepy/moby wrap. The wrap is priceless for newborns and ergo is priceless as they get older. Learn to love the carriers, because if your baby is anything like my babies, they won’t ride in your precious stroller for quite some time, and will also hate the carseat!! Also, think about cloth diapers. Especially if you think you want more than one baby 😉 If you’re interested in cloth diapers, that will be a whole other post. 🙂

We registered for the moby and ergo – so it looks like we’re on the right track! And we are cloth diapering as well 🙂

A moby wrap!!! I love mine. It keeps my hands free so I can get things done, but I can keep my baby girl close to me.

You probably don’t need it, but I’ve been giving all my friends this ASHA book (along with a homemade taggie embroidered with their name)–Talking on the Go. http://goo.gl/mES5P

Oh I *LOVE* that idea for my expecting friends! I often refer people to “It Takes Two to Talk” after they have concerns. Too pricey to give to every mama-to-be… this is a nice alternative! Kudos fellow speechie 🙂

well, haydee was such a light little thing, the mommy pouch didn’t make its full debut until jesse came along. and oh. my. goodness. at 5 months, he is a CHUNK. all 19 glorious pounds of him. so the mommy pouch is a huuuuuge necessity. make sure you get one of those. also, trust me…you can never have enough passifyers and you can never have enough bibs. i know not everyone goes with the passis but if you do, the way it usually goes it that inevitably even though you start with like 20, cuz everyone gets you one, they always fall out, get lost, hide….transform into another thing so you can’t find them etc….so yea. don’t skimp on those. and the single most important bit of baby equipment….the video cam. but i can’t imagine wither of you without this bit of technology 🙂

Oliver is rigging up cameras that stream to our cell phones, ipad and web browsers (if you have a log inand password…) so he can see from work and the grandparents can see and yeah… tech will be a definite 🙂

I don’t think we’ll be doing passies, but I am sure we will be given some just in case squish needs it as a newborn!

And baby wearing seems to be a solid trend! Glad we’ll have 4 to pick from! But I am still crossing my fingers for a tiny behbeh 😉

My sister had this bunny stuffed animal that made heart beat sounds. she would put it near the crib while Dominick started to fall asleep. it gave him the sense of her being near. the video baby monitor is a must have. its one thing to be able to hear the baby when he/she cries and its another thing to see her even if she is just sleeping.

The bunny stuffed animal is a must according to many of my friends. We never had one w/ Gabe, but he had a toy similar I guess that played lullaby music and glowed soft like the glow worms when we were kids. I have a friend that swears by her sea horse one for her twins. My friend katie said the bunny animal was the only thing that would soothe Atreyu during colicky nights, when she’d tried everything else. Gabe wasn’t a paci baby til he started teething ‘hard-core’ around 6 mos so we never invested in those at all til then. The biggest thing we loved and absolutely used the stuffing out of (literally in one of them) was our boppy. They are GREAT! I loved mine. Although I know you’ve already registered for one, I just want you to know how amazing they are & how many uses they have. Best of luck & fun in your shopping adventures!

I am paranoid and loved my Angelcare monitor. It detects if the baby is breathing and (God forbid) if it stops, it sounds an alarm. I also loved swaddle blankets for Adam, although Kara didn’t like them for the first few months (she wanted to stretch out even before she was born…and was in almost a jackknife position at my last appointment…there was no swaddling that girl until she was good and ready!). Books we love are anything Sandra Boynton, especially the Little Pookie series.

I love the Angelcare monitor as well. I used that with Corey and Abby. I believe that we may have lost Corey without one. When Michael was a baby, he always got his legs stuck out of the crib so I put in a bumper. I just assumed that Corey would need one too so I put one in the crib. (They didn’t have the net ones yet.) Well Corey liked to rap his arm around the bumper and pull it over his face. He stopped breathing several times before Dale and I figured it out and pulled the bumper out. That was scary. I did have to stop using the monitor with Abby though. She liked to curl up at the end of the crib and the monitor would go off because she was off the sensor pad.

Oh, it was Corey that managed to get his leg stuck in the crib so that Dale had to cut the bars to get him out. You would have thought that would have been Michael!

The Rocker Recliner Mom bought me from Lazy Boy!!! Its a little pricey but its been everyones best friend! I lived in it while nursing and pupping. Deffinitly made for some very good nights instead of miserable. easy to sleep in with Korbel (and still is). Now we sit in it to read to her. I also catch her sitting in it to read to her self!! I couldn’t live with out it.

We are registering for a “one and a half” glider! We are super excited, because we can both sit in it and read to baby or feed baby. It is then very roomy for just one of us + baby 🙂
